SIM UB ORIENTATION’09

WoHoo!! I like the t-shrt… niceeeeeee…

7.45am and I was sitting in SIM….
bloody hell….
I was waaaaaaaay too early…..
the sms stated 8am but everything started at 9.30am….

I had to try and be sociable for an hour and a half….
uggghh……
the ogls were nice though….
I finally got to meet Mr. r-u-coming-but-it-is-compulsory….
and he looks 100% NUM…..
got loads of stuff…
my crumpler was already so heavy…
they gave us more stuff….
oh wells…

anyways, I spent the whole morning in the lecture hall freezing my ass off & falling asleep….
freaking cold…
AND the school is damn smart….
there’s not reception in the lecture halls…
we can receive msgs and calls but we can’t msg or call out….

most of the students are from JCs….
only a hand full of us are from poly…
the guys are all outta army…
but guess what….
they don’t look like they’ve been to the army…
skinny & fair…. like…. ‘huh?’…. I was expecting them to look like andrew or pong…
or….. geez… I don’t know…
haha…
but even after the army and all…
i think I’m still the oldest…
hahaha…
& &…. I found one of B’s GM seniors….
geeZ….. what a coincidence…. that makes like 3 people she knws in UB….
I bet ash could find a couple of people she knws in UB too….
waaah…..

anyways, during the break,
one of the girls, vanessa and I went to outside and we went to the wrong buffet!!!
apparently the lecture hall next to ours had some talk too…
and the buffet tables were only like 30 feet away from each other…
we ate the brownies from the wrong buffet table…
oOpps…. but they didn’t taste very good….
and the buffet for UB was better…. hahaha

by noon, we bus-ed down to Sentosa…
lunched and started the whole games thing….
played some broken telephone thing….
but instead of words, it’s like you act out the phrase…
i was the 1st person for the second round and I got ‘Sex on the beach’…..
right…. so i just stuck out my middle finger and pointed to the whole beach area….
by the middle, the action went from middle finger to the ‘crazy action’….
like how you would take your index finger and swirl it at your head….
OMG…….

spent the next 30mins or so waiting at the next station….
we only had time to play 2 games…
cause more than half of the time was spent waiting and walking…
had a tally match after…. which was… meh…
nothing fantastic much….

I couldn’t wait to go home…
felt soooooo filthy….
missed B so much by dusk…

went to chinatown for dinner with the folks…
oh man…. I miss chinatown food…..
must go must go…

came home to my timetable…
B. went through all the modules, all the files, all the class lists to find my timetable….
cause to find out your classes and timetable is really different in UB….
in fact, it’s freaking tedious …
first you have to find out all the modules you are taking for the sem….
and for this sem, I am taking…
- COM 101 (3) *
- CSE 111 (4)*
- ESL 407 (3)
- MTH 115 (4)
- SOC 101 (3)

and then we have to go through like 40 class lists to  find our name….
like COM 101 has 2 classes…
so we have find out whether it’s class A or B we’re in….
same thing for the others….
AND THEN…. we have to look at the timetable which contains EVERYONE’S timetable and hunt for your own….
anyways, B. did all that for me…
plus my academic calendar….
hee….
the only thing I don’t have is the venue of my classes…
or at least we can’t find them…

Mahjong & Steamboat with the SP Peeps yesterday was absolute….

Ricky, Jeremy, Shaun, Mama, Kitty & Mabel came over for MJ, Movies & Food.

and then like 2mins later,

right ok, I know…. EVERYONE says my blog is a food blog…
anyway, that wasn’t his asshole moment….
he then goes on and asks me…
‘eh, have you applied for UNI or not?’
like…. ‘?!?!?!?!?! I start in one week!!!! & Jeremy & I were JUST talking about my orientation!!’

sent B. to work then bus-ed home sleeping & slept before meeting her again to head down to Candy’s for agnes’s bday….

she got the car and came all the way down to Serangoon to pick us up and sent us home….
although she had business at my area,
she got lost but came to pick us up…

1 birthday…. 2 movies… & a whole lotta food

Vans’s belated birthday brunch @ P.S Cafe…

had ash over on Tuesday night to get the gifts ready….
bloody shit… my printer is like totally trashed….
I haven’t used it for years….
so the one time I decided to use it again…
it sucks ass….
wasted my trip with b. to sim lim man….
firstly, the printer doesn’t contact to the MAC cause the plugs are different…
secondly, the ink came out all green!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*sigh*

anyways ash and I got some photos printed the next morning…
BUT the thumbdrive decided to join the printer….
half the pics in it couldn’t be read by the machine….
after that we rushed to tow to buy balloons and then to P.S cafe…
we sat at the table to get everything pasted and done…
we even told Vans to be late…
hahaha
anyways, I love the balloons we bought for her…

the weight is soooo cute!!
pointless & expensive but soooo pretty!!!!!!!!!
& i thought Vans would try to open it…
thinking there was something inside…

mehhh….. nothing to die for…

Oh the fries were yummy…
& the portion is like… WOW….

tasteful blend of ground beef, vegetables & spices topped with rustic buttered mash, oven-baked & served with pea & ham soup
the piewas good but the pea soup was yucks……. eekkk…

GREEN GARDEN LASAGNE
garden vegetables tossed with mozzarella cheese, bechamel & portobello mushroom duxelle, layered with herb ricotta, spinach pasta & baked till bubbling, served with shaved fennel & almond salad
disappointed…..it was quite bland…

CHICKEN PARMIGIANO
pan seared breast of chicken topped with chunky tomato sauce, garlic ciabatta crouton & hand grated pecorino cheese, gratineed & served with sticky balsamic dressed salad greens
this was pretty good… and damn filling…

seriously….
ordered enough to feed 4 people… maybe 5….
hahaha…..
sadly…. I was quite disappointed in the food….
the only thing that tasted good enough were the Chicken Parmigiano & Fries….
the price would have been more worth paying for if the standard was better…
the pea soup was left untouched after 3 spoons…. 1 by each of us…
the lasagne wasn’t finished either…
I would have liked to try the deserts…
but we were too full man…
service was good though…
ambiance was good too…

the storyline was interesting….
haven’t watched a movie with a storyline like this one in a while…
Isabelle Fuhrman’s (Esther) performance was awesome…
and she’s only 12…. reminds me of Kristen Dunst when she did ‘Interview with the Vampire’…..
anyways, she’s actually quite pretty outside of the movie….
Aryana Engineer (Max) is soooooo cute!!!!
and she’s actually really hearing-impaired in real-life…..
well this movie was definitely worth the money to watch…

caught ‘The Proposal’ the next day…

caught District 9 on Saturday…
with B, Cass & Kenneth…
last minute decision….
wanted to watch ‘The Orphan’ but fully booked…

BUT District 9 was a lot better than expected…

the film did prove to be pretty good but it’s not for everyone…
they filmed it in a different perspective…
in an interview kind of manner…
Sharlto Copley ( Wikus van der Merwe) managed to pull off asshole and hero pretty well…

annoyed me in the beginning of the movie cause of the way he treated the aliens…
like super loser poser…
but he pretty much grows as the movie progresses…
and he’s actually pretty good looking…
the aliens (prawns) were pretty awesome…
baby prawn was sooo cute…
hidden hero of the movie…
for a movie with a small budget,
it manages to go beyond expectations.
it’s worth the $8.
